Stripping Knives are used to pull out the guard hairs, they have different spacing in teeth to pull less, so at first start with widest teeth spacing, use chalk powders for more grip, you will stretch skin with other hand and gently grip some hairs between your thumb and the knife and cleanly pull in direction of coat growth, so for example from top of back of neck towards withers, side of neck sloping down to shoulder, sides of spine following ribs to underside. Make sure you do not pull too slow, and keep your wrist neutral, not twisting or scooping with knife as this can cut or tear the coat. Use a terrier palm pad to fluff up and expose the longer layers that need to get pulled
This set features 4 stripping "knives" or tools, that have a nice grippy rubber handle and a handy case to store them in.
extra fine, Fine , Medium and coarse with rubber handles. we also have just a 2 set of fine/medium
use the finer on areas you want to pull everything and leave it shorter, use the more coarse on areas where you want to leave some coat to fill in and achieve a certain shape or look(such as the divot above tail, Typically if you have tons of coat tp pull start with coarse, and you can also rake and card it out to make it easier.
these knives have a factory edge that can cut hair, they need to be dulled! cut cardboard, drag through dirt, scrape in ear powder etc. you can check by looking for the natural soft root on the hair it removes, there should not be a blunt cut end in the hair caught in the teeth.
