How this table works is when you press the pedal it releases the "brake" on the shock that wants to extend naturally. so when table is empty it will give resistance to press shorter, and be easy to raise up. with a little weight( say a chi) you will still have to lightly apply pressure to lower and guide it from raising too fast. With a med weight(say a shih tzu) you will guide table down with fingertip as the dogs weight will make it lower nut slow, you again will be able to guide back up with a finger. If you put too much weight (40-50lbs) you will have to help lower(or it will go fast) and help lift (or it will not move). Its basically like an "assisted lift" table. perfect for small dogs, it lacks the wide heavy base to be stable enough for larger dogs.
