undercoat rakes are great way to "muck out" excess coat before stripping, to get coat to lay flatter and smoother, and to get dogs to dry faster(also help with dogs that get that damp funky smell cause they will dry out faster at home too)
*Always go WITH direction coat grows/lays! you will stretch skin with other hand and gently pull tool in direction of coat growth, so for example from top of back of neck towards withers and down spine towards tail, side of neck sloping down to shoulder, sides of spine following ribs to underside. if dog is not routinely groomed or getting raked out, be aware that pulling out too much at one time can cause redness of skin( blood flow) and possibly irritation, especially if you do before bath on dirty coat and use a very drying
TIPS: use on wet coat for very thick hard to get through.
use on damp before drying like labs to get down and remove most of shedding undercoat.
start with widest teeth that still removes coat, go more narrow as it becomes easier. or moveto a carding knife.
