There are many great hand stripping tools, one being stones. This might seem a bit strange at first sight, but they are actually an outstanding, very effective instrument to help you achieve the natural look you want for your dog. The Show Tech groom(ing) stones allow you to pull out dead and loose hair from a coarse and wiry coat without damaging it. They are also fantastic to quickly remove stubborn pet hairs from your couch, carpet, car seats or other fabric-covered surfaces as well.
Your stepping stone to success
This professional long-lasting grooming stone may be used as an aid to hand stripping and also as a finishing tool to remove loose hairs and give a smoother, cleaner finish. It is perfect for use on show dogs and allows you to pull out dead and loose hair from the coarse and wiry coat without damaging it. The uneven surface of the stone traps loose hair, which makes the Groom Stone perfect for removing loose hair from any surface, even clothes and soft furnishings!
This tool is ideal for hand stripping show dogs, for situations where every hair is important and when the hairs must be totally hand-stripped in their entire length without damaging or breaking them. It is also great to restore a bad coat e.g., if your beloved four-legged friend’s coat has been clipped, scissored or stripped with a sharp stripping knife. By regularly pulling out the soft dull hairs from root to tip, there will be place again in the follicles for healthy wiry hairs to grow back!
What makes these stones unique, is they are specially designed to be used on light-coloured or grey coats. Unlike traditional, black stripping stones, they leave almost no residue in light-coloured coats. Because they are made of a denser material, they also keep their form longer and wear away less easily than stripping stones, which are made from a softer material.
Thanks to the very light design with rounded edges, the Show Tech Groom Stone fits perfectly in your hand palm and ensures a comfortable grip. This stripping tool is easy and a pleasure to use!

If you want to use the stone on larger surfaces (horses, large dogs or carpets and the like), you can use it in its full size. Do you want the stone to fit in the palm of your hand? Then it can be cut with a comb or knife into a smaller piece to better fit the palm of your hand. Once the stripping stone is cut and ready to use, it’s time to start grooming.
Take the stone in your dominant hand and with the thumb of your other hand, hold the skin tightly. Then with a gentle movement and without using too much pressure, comb in the direction of the coat growth using the stripping stone in order to remove the undercoat. This is a first way to use the Groom Stone.
There’s also another way. Hold the stone in the palm of your hand and while making a combing movement on the coat, put pressure on your thumb and other fingers in order to grip and trap the hairs between your fingers and the stone. You can make it easier by lifting a few hairs from the coat with your other hand. With your fingers or a brush, you get to better see where to pull. Repeat until the desired length is achieved. If you want to make it more comfortable for the dog, we recommend using your free hand to slightly tighten the skin just above the area where you want to pull hairs.
